Title: Rejection of the petition of Petrus Polfer

The manuscript explains that in 1795, Petrus Polfer petitioned the Assembly to challenge the rights of the original proprieters of the Manor of Livingston. After investigating the charges, the Assembly concluded that the proprieter's had been in possession of the Manor for over 100 years, and were the rightful proprieters. The manuscript therefore declares that the prayer of the petitioner ought not to be granted.

In the law suit, Reyer Schermerhorn charged that Karel Hamsen Toll defamed his character by speaking ill of him in the Dutch tongue, not realizing that Schermerhorn could understand. Schermerhorn therefore sued Hansen for slander.

Has enclosed a letter for the President from Mr. Thomas Edwards, the former Judge Advocate, who is very poor at present and would like an appointment in the judicial branch as a clerk. Would like to pursue for himself the office of Marshal, and explains why he is well-suited for its duties. Also discusses his suitability for several other positions, but leaves it to Knox, who is in the seat of government, to represent his interests there.

Account of slave case of George Lattimer. First and only edition. Original wrappers. Lattimer, a free black Boston resident, had been arrested on application of James Gray of Norfolk, Va., as his escaped slave. Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, acting as Circuit Judge, had Lattimer detained. Many Bostonians were outraged, and a meeting at Fanueil Hall voted that disunion was preferable to returning slaves.
