Sousa believes inspiration for writing music comes from something above oneself, and that contemporary compositions written from knowledge of harmonic structure alone lack the quality of inspiration.

This copy has a pencil note "1740" in margin, but no evidence for dating. In fact, this map remained current without change in French atlases for more than half a century. Writing to a Sunday school class, Abbot, an Astrophysicist and Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, recounts an anecdote from his childhood in which a cobbler told him "the Kingdom of Heaven is within you." Abbot explains that Heaven is within you when you follow a "philosophy of happy life." This philosophy is characterized by study of the classics of human culture--such as the Bible, literature, music, and great paintings.

The themes in Disney's films "link together children, youth and adults of the whole world by showing the virtues which should orientate the common life of men everywhere especially through the animals stories and tales for children." He concludes by writing that he became a priest in order to best follow Christ and Gospel.

He then offers his own interpretation of the phrase (from the Sermon on the Mount) "Ask and ye shall receive...," arguing that it properly applies to seeking Truth. Bolinger also writes that society needs a "workable moral code." Brown felt tip pen, with a printed "watermark" of a cowboy riding a bucking bronco.

This is a speech dedicating the Drake Memorial Mausoleum Shrine to the world's first oil well, drilled in Titusville, Pennsylvania by Edwin C. Drake in 1859. Cheatham's speech discusses the meaning of success. She refers to Jesus Christ as the world's greatest success, and discusses how his teachings inspire her to produce art reflecting her love and reverence for children.

Grant is rendered in the act of handing Lee the surrender treaty. Organized troops can be seen in the distance. A few men on horseback stand watching behind and to the side of both Grant and Lee. Title continues: "or, the British surrendering their arms to General Washington after their defeat at York-Town, in Virginia, in the month of October, 1781." States that John Francis Renault is the creator of the work. Contains a description of the picture, noting that each subscriber pays twelve dollars for an engraving of Renault's work. Attests to Renault's patent of the picture. Printed at the Emerald Press. Docketed by Knox, who notes he paid five dollars and will pay the remainder "when finished."

Marked "Copy." Letter in a secretarial hand. Says that Joel Barlow, later known as one of the Connecticut Wits, will deliver this letter. Knox identifies Barlow as the author of "The vision of Columbus," a long epic poem in heroic couplets. Barlow went to Europe as an agent for a company that wanted to sell western lands to French emigrants. Knox says Barlow is traveling with the son of Nathanael Greene, George Washington Greene, who is to study with Lafayette in France.
