In this letter, Michael M. Miller writes home to his wife. He wishes her a merry Christmas and hopes this is the last Christmas apart from her. Him and a friend went to a nearby place to eat and had a big meal for the holiday which he was happy about becaause of a prior food supply shortage. He said that both him and his friend were upset that they hadn't received letters from their wives. He is excited about having sausage for breakfast. Some men from the company are leaving and he lists their names. He says that he would not enlist back into the army if asked and signs off lovingly.

Writing from Camp at Brestow Station in Virginia, Miller thanks his wife for writing so often, but insists he doesn't need her to send him "a Box", presumably of food because "we now get fresh Bread all the time". He describes the rations in more detail, seeming to be content with what he has. He alludes to the fact that on his last trip home, his wife was away. Nathaniel R. Davison writes to his brother, Willie, and his sister, Sallie, having heard from Ella Wat that they had heard nothing from him. He describes the defeat of 3000 troops at Annandale and the loss of 300 troops to death or imprisonment. He writes that only two companies of the regiment have seen battle, those at Manassas. Davison describes the cabins that they built for winter, but he worries that they will be required to depart before they can use them.

Nathaniel R. Davison writes to his sister, Sallie, and his mother from Camp Fisher. He is not able to secure a furlough, so he will not be able to visit home soon. He feels certain that a major move is likely, though he does not know to where. The Union forces made trouble at Fort Donelson, taking many Confederate troops prisoners. Written at Camp Fisher.

Nathaniel R. Davison writes to his sister, Sallie, and her children from Goldsboro, NC. He speaks of Union troops advancing toward Kinston, NC, and he describes life in camp, including the mild winter and his commissary duties. Davison writes that he almost got married and asks about the engagement of his friends, Kate and Jim Finley.
