Writes from Alabama. "[G]reat scarcity in the land…we are where we hear nothing & know nothing. I have tried to keep as unobserved as possible…It now takes $100 to buy a bunch of thread…Charlie has been made clerk of Wheeler's ordnance he writes it is "bomb proof place: and for the first time he cries with the wiley fire eaters hurra for the war…The desertions from the army are awful I don't see how they keep an army together at all. It is strange our leaders don't see the hand writing on the wall & make peace on the best terms they can get…Scouts still threaten occasionally to kill…

Note on Miller's own stationary which reads "Miller A. Wright, Dr., Dealer in Dry Good, Clothing, Notions, Boots, Shoes and Hats." Financial statement. There are numerical quantities listed in the right margin, while text fills the rest of the page. The last page has been ripped in half, and only the bottom half is present. It reads: "Will Burns has some notes of mine against me that are settled and went to get them today-But he kept them for the purposes of having the mortgage cancelled-He will turn them over."

Moe had dinner with Joe, and stayed at the Rotary dormitory,. He also went window shopping on Pacific avenue, and stopped at an arcade. Moe is also glad to hear that Alvin has been classified as pilot material.

Moe talks about the changing of the seasons. He says he feels sorry for Sylvia because there are only low-grade products available for civilians. He also notes that in some cases the German prisoners are treated better than their own army. For instance they get six packs of cigarettes a week and the Germans get seven.

Moe went Christmas shopping with another soldier. He received a package but was disappointed it contained no cigarettes. He also received a letter from Bess, and is glad she approves of him as Sylvia's husband.

Moe went into town with Jack to do some shopping, have a haircut, and see a movie. They met an old Scotsman on their outing who'd been in the Navy for most of his life and had traveled to the Black Sea.
