Also contains two articles relating to labor. Signed well before any formal French agreement (or the Hortalez & Cie arrangement) with Congress. Also signed by Chaussade. Original cover disbound, but included.

Has green wrapper cover, which seems to be original.

During the Revolutionary War privateering ships, privately owned vessels, were used to assist in defending the colonies from the British Navy. In return, they received profits from prizes captured. Most signed by Elizabeth Lovett, his wife. Lovett was a privateer ship merchant and captain in Beverly, Massachusetts. He served as the agent for the prizes captured by the Pilgrim. Dated May 30, 1780 - 10 December 1825.

List of regiments and officers with the number of rations delivered to each. Front page states it is to Wadsworth and Carter, a firm created by Jeremiah Wadsworth and Colonel Carter. Carter was actually John Barker Church. They served as agents for the French Army during the Revolutionary War.

Lists goods he has received as the commander of the privateer ship the Marquiss to ship on behalf of Samuel Croce. States he will sell the contents in France and return to Croce the profits after giving one fourth to the freight commissioners. The estimated costs of the goods are listed on the lower half of the document. Document is signed by an N. Ward but John Buffington was the commander of the Marquis (see GLC01450.060).

Signed by 38 other men. Petition to the members of the Massachusetts Bay Council and the House of Representatives requesting that a port and a naval office be established upon the Kennebeck River (present day Kennebec River, Maine). States that the naval office at Boothbay is very inconvenient for trade since it is a great distance to Boothbay or Falmouth.

Addressed to Mr. Baker and Blow, merchants, South Quay, Virginia. Encloses a certificate from the Auditor's office for eight hundred seventy-nine pounds, eleven shillings, four pence for rum. Discusses the appraisal value of the rum. Requests that Baker and Blow inform the assembly that he is waiting at his expense to get paid for the shipments, having come over from his home in St. Croix, the West Indies. Hopes they will order payment soon with interest.

Discusses business relating to the exchange and sale of nails and board. Postscript informs Seymour about information he has learned from men aboard a sloop of his that arrived in Newport, Rhode Island. Discusses a ship or fleet that sailed with a French fleet and was bound for Havana to meet some Spanish ships. States that it was reported that they have 10,000 troops, 300 heads of cattle, and clothing. He cannot guess their destination.
