Belonged to Joshua Pico, a liquor merchant from Boston. Wooden chest with two handles, metal edges, and a lock on the lid. The key is missing so the lock is stuffed with paper to prevent locking. Interior has separated compartments for six large glass liquor bottles with glass toppers, six smaller bottles with glass toppers, and a removable section with two tumblers, two small liquor glasses, and a shot glass. All glass items are decorated with a gold floral pattern. Pico's license to sell liquor in Boston is pasted to the bottom of the removable compartment. It is dated 21 December…

Campbell, a sub-Indian agent under Graham, reports on various difficulties he is encountering while dealing with Indians in Missouri: a party of Delaware Indians led by Chief William Anderson are opposing relocation to Kansas; problems related to Kickapoo annuities, horse thefts, and the lack of an interpreter; the imminent arrival of the Cherokee and their (and the Delaware) war with the Osage; and, a drunken associate that was giving him no assistance.

Lengthy letter describing the war-time sacrifices of Erhandz Richter, a Richmond brewer, presumably of German origin, who sacrificed his fortune and risked his family to serve in the Union Army. Schurz pleads Richter's cause with the commander of the Dept. of Virginia, asking him to assist Richter in returning to his business, which had been sold off by his partners, who were Confederate sympathizers. With a docket on the verso from Head Quarters in Richmond concerning action to be taken about Richter and his brewery.

Watts writes of the suppositions surrounding Samuel Vetch's ship, still laden with its cargo of spirits and furs. Capt. Vetch's journal of the excursion, along with his papers (receipts for the illicit goods and the like), were discovered aboard the abandoned ship, and it is presumed that some of the cargo had been previously off-loaded (adding to hopes of Vetch's survival). Campbell sends the account of Lt. Governor Nanfan pertaining to Samuel Vetch's abandoned ship, in which it claimed contraband items (18 casks of brands, beaver skins, scarlet cloth) were found on board. He says "wee all Long to heare what is become of Capt. Vetch," adding to the mystery of the ship's grounding.
