Mountford describes attempted assassination of the Dey of Algiers by four Turkish soldiers "each armed with two pistols, a Carbine & an atagon . . . . His attendants were at the distance of 60 yards & instantly ran to his assistance, and stoned to death, three of these assassins on the spot . . . . A more miraculous escape never happened." The "King of England, had observed in his last speech to parliament, that negociations for peace were on foot, between his nation & France." Mountford was Lear's secretary in Algiers. Nanfan writes to forward news of the Parliamentary hearings discussing the Commission of Captain Kidd. According to Nanfan, who includes a transcribed copy of the minutes of the Parliamentary Committee detailed to investigate this Commission, the Earl of Bellomont was charged and testified in the case. Bellomont, in Nanfan's words, "was cleared by a very great majority consequently with a great deal of honnour." Sharpas writes first of Lord Cornbury's impending arrival in New York, with his retinue including his wife and children, Mr. Honan his private secretary, and Coll Richard Ingoldsby. He then writes of the war which was ongoing in Europe, in which King Willliam travelled to Holland with an army, the Swedish army (led by the young Swede king) defeated the Saxon army near Riga, and a rout of the French by the Italians (in which 13,000 Frenchmen were killed and "54 pieces of Cannon" were taken).

Title: Orders re: naming all officers and soldiers of Fort William Henry as freemen

Due to regulations preventing all but free men from carrying on as tradesmen in the colonies, many soldiers and officers of his Majesty's Armies had deserted their posts due to want of food and clothing. In an effort to convey gratitude and maintain the town's protection from "the French of Canada and their Indians," the Council ordered that all soldiers and officers barracked at Fort William Henry be granted the status of free men, and all rights and priveleges which follow.
