Title: List of items being brought by Robert Livingston Jr. on his voyage to Scotland

Livingston's son Robert (1688-1775) made a trip to Scotland in 1699, bringing with him such supplies as "a new morning gown," "6 fine hollan Shirts," "a Gold ring & a pare of Silver buttons," and numerous spices. He travelled on the Calledonia with Capt. Drummond Commander, and under the care of Capt. Samuel Vetch.

Riggs writes with news which has been passed along thorughout New York. Firstly, Riggs mentions Livingston's arrival home and the death of the King of Spain. Furthermore, Riggs discusses the failed Scottish colony at Darien, which had been captured and then colonized by the Spanish. Finally, Riggs mentions pirate activities in the West Indies, and the Lieutenant Governor's plans to travel to Barbados. Docketed on address leaf.

Graham writes that Lord Bellomont had testified before Parliament for five days regarding the case of Captain William Kidd, and after having completed his testimony and being acquitted from any wrongdoings, Bellomont has issued orders that all pirates in the American colonies ("Maryland, Pennsilvania & the Jerseys") be transported to England. Title: to Robert Livingston re: congratulations on return from Indian Mission

Nanfan welcomes Livingston's return to Albany, after having been on a mission to the Onondaga tribe in an effort to maintain peaceful relations between the tribe and the colony. Nanfan then further writes that Governor Nicholson, while aboard the frigate 'Shoram Prize,' captured a pirate and "rescued a great many good vessels he had taken," releasing three English prisoners taken by the Pirate. Robert writes to to inform his father of his voyage to Scotland. He writes of the ill-treatment he had received from Captain Drommond "in kieping Me abord a month after coming to the River of Glaskow" and of the theft of a ring given him by his sister. He writes of his cold, gained from remaining on the ship, and asks to be remembered by his siblings. Riggs mentions some financial business and the counting of money at home. He also mentions a rumor that man of wars were sighted moving toward Boston, but does not believe that it is true. Riggs writes reiterating his fears of a news embargo, stating that no ship with news had arrived at either Boston or New York. He sends word that, contrary to rumors, Virginia Lt. Riggs writes of the first ship come to New York after such a long period of inactivity, a ship carrying twenty eight passengers from England and France. Jamison sends word of Lord Cornbury's ill-fated first voyage to the colonies (the ship being forced to return to Plymouth, England when it lost its masts), as well as of a war in Europe in which Germany is fighting France and Sweden is fighting both Denmark and Russia ("the Saxons & Muscovites"). He also writes of a great offense to the Chief Justice of the province, and of legal machinations occuring over John Livingston's importation of (illegal) wine & brandy. Docketed on verso.

Title: to Robert Livingston re: discovery of Samuel Vetch's abandoned ship

Watts writes of the suppositions surrounding Samuel Vetch's ship, still laden with its cargo of spirits and furs. Capt. Vetch's journal of the excursion, along with his papers (receipts for the illicit goods and the like), were discovered aboard the abandoned ship, and it is presumed that some of the cargo had been previously off-loaded (adding to hopes of Vetch's survival). Campbell sends the account of Lt. Governor Nanfan pertaining to Samuel Vetch's abandoned ship, in which it claimed contraband items (18 casks of brands, beaver skins, scarlet cloth) were found on board. He says "wee all Long to heare what is become of Capt. Vetch," adding to the mystery of the ship's grounding.
