Title: Private conference between Governor Hunter and Sachems of the 5 Nations

In response to an inquiry, the 5 Nations note that the French have not built a fort in the Seneca's country, but have rather erected a trading post at that site. The Indians state that they are uneasy due to news that the French and English plan to cut off all Indians and populate the land with people from Europe. They also tell the Governor that they have received small pox from Maryland or Virginia, and demand that this intentional practice cease.

Title: Propositions to the 5 Nations

Schuyler explains the French designs to make a settlement at Onjagore, and warns the Indians that they will be ruined if they allow such a settlement. He discusses the mischievous activity of the 5 Nations in the southern colonies, and advises them to send an embassy to acknowledge their breach of the covenant, and their desire to repair the damages. Schuyler also mentions a conflict regarding possession of the Susquehanna River, and the need for confirmation of when and to whom this land was sold. The docket states that the proposition was not approved.

Schuyler proposes to renew the covenant chain on behalf of all of the King's colonies, and regrets the absence of the Senecas, who have entered into an agreement with the French. The 4 Nations are asked ot make peace with all English allies, and are commended for resisting French efforts to build a settlement at Onjagore.

Abraham Schuyler is ordered to settle in the Seneca's country for 12 months in an effort to trade with the Far Nations, and invite them to Albany to trade with the English settlers. Schuyler is directed to tell the Far Nations that the English offer their goods at a significantly cheaper price, and he is to make sure that the 5 Nations do not hinder their passage. The records of the Commissioners of Indian Affairs discuss ways to have the palatines provide military detachments with food, the retrieval of captive children from Canada, and the need to be on guard against possible French and Indian attacks. Title: Deposition of Symon Groot

The deposition explains that Symon Groot came to the colony in 1638 to trade with the West India Company, and throughout his time here he has repeatedly endangered himself by fighting with the Mohawks in their war with the French and their Indians. He also explains the practice of taking hostages among the French and Indians, and how the Indians learned to torture prisoners from their experience with the French. Document is marked as a copy.

Title: "Observations made by Robert Livingston Secretary of Indian Affairs in . . .

. . . his Voyage to Onnondage in April 1700." Livingston reports that the Mohawks have become weak, and many are fleeing to Canada. He recommends that the English send more ministers to convert the Indians, and he also suggests that the Mohawks, Onondagas, and Oneidas all be moved to tracts of land closer to Albany. Livingston advocates the establishment of garrisons and magazines, and the erection of a fort at Skachtkook in order to create greater security around the Indian settlements. P.7 contains a tabulation of the distances between Onondaga and Albany, and a map was sketched on p.8.

Title: Propositions made by the messengers of the Onondaga Sachems

The messengers inform Corlaer that the Seneca Sachems have gone to Canada, and that 5 "Waganhaes" from different nations have recently arrived at Onondaga. P.2 contains Robert Livingston's answer given to the Onondagas, signed and dated 14 June 1700. In the answer, Livingston explains that the English will send Lawrence Claese up to Onondaga to investigate, and also to prevent more Senecas from fleeing to Canada.

This document is a printed broadside put out by the Sacco-Vanzetti Defense Committee which attacks the exclusive judgment of Judge Webster Thayer and says in part: "The issue is not only for Massachusetts. It is for America. The world will judge American ideals of justice on this case." Dating based on mention of an execution date of 10 July, but they were actually executed on 23 August 1927. With imprint of Allied Printing Tades Council, Boston.

This document is a printed broadside that quotes a columnist from the New York World and reads, "What more can these immigrants from Italy expect? it is not every prisoner who has a President of Harvard University throw on the switch for him." Sacco and Vanzetti were executed on 23 August 1927. The quoted man is Heywood Broun.
