Suggests himself as the most able examiner, which is problematic since he had been excluded from the committee.

Includes excerpts of letters regarding Nat Turner's Rebellion, claiming that more than 58 whites have been killed, and that the uprising consists of between 150 and 300 participants armed with "fowling-pieces, clubs, &c." A list of white victims is included. A commentary opines that northern enouragement of such revolts can do no good and will only "render one portion of our country a vast aceldma of blood." Also: a lengthy statement by Vice President John C. Calhoun regarding "the Tariff" and its division of the United States into two separate sections, North and South.

In the preface, Wilson writes, "I have sought, in this volume, to narrate, with brevity, fairness, and impartiality, the history of the antislavery legislation of Congress during the past three years of civil war." Wilson expresses anti-slavery sentiments.

Gerry was then vice president. Written from the chamber of the senate. One engraving of "Elmood," once the residence of Elbridge Gerry, included as collateral.

Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, upon discovering the fragility of the original Declaration of Independence in 1820, ordered this exact facsimile to be produced. It took Stone three years to exactly copy and engrave the handwriting on the original document. This image is the closest facsimile of the original document. Jefferson discusses the Logan incident, in which George Logan, a Philadelphia Quaker, attempted to negotiate differences between the United States and the French Directory on his own initiative (the Logan Act of 1799 made it illegal). Jefferson thinks the Federalists forged documents "to ensnare Logan" in order to pass the act (he later in this letter writes that Logan's "enthusiastic enterprise" prevented war). Jefferson turns to revenue and expenses, which he lists, in order to show that additional army and navy will consume any budget surplus.…
