Title: [Proclamation lifting restrictions on trade west of the Mississippi River]

Printed signature of President Johnson and Acting Secretary of State William Hunter. Proclamation will "restore unrestricted commercial intercourse between and in the several States ... and Territories west of the Mississippi river." Opens all trade except that in arms, ammunition, all articles from which ammunition is made, gray cloth, and property purchased by agents of the former Confederate forces. Says customs agents will supervise trade and that they shall receive any captured or abandoned property that should be confiscated by law.

Created to authorize vessels (possibly privateers) to "set forth ... in a warlike manner ... to attack, subdue, seize, and take all ships and other vessels, goods, wares and merchandizes, belonging to the King or Crown of Great Britain ..." Features paper seal.

List of dry goods Washington ordered for his plantation. Includes blankets, buttons, and cloth. Most of the items are material for blankets and clothing for his slaves. Asks for "6 pieces of the largest - thickest and best striped Blanketing for negros. - these pieces generally contain 15 or 16 blankets each. -" This list was written two and a half weeks before Washington's death. Previous research stated that the paper has the watermark of George Washington's stationery, but this could not be confirmed. A partial watermark is at the bottom corner of verso.

States that the railroad is "'a great civilizer', and will enable the Military Authorities to maintain peace and order among Indians as well as the equally dangerous clans of Robbers ... " Advises Colton on possible routes for continuation of the railroad through Arizona. Hopes that the railroad will increase trade and secure peace between the United States and Mexico.

Partially printed document. Marked at top as "No. 46 Permanent." The register says the "Hetiwan" is owned by George A. Trenholm of Charleston, South Carolina and that Alexander Robertson is the ship's master. The schooner has measurements of: 59 feet 4 inches in length, 26 feet 10 inches in breadth, and 6 feet 4 inches in depth. She weighs 65 tons. Signed in the margin by Robert Tyler, W.F. Colcock as collector of the port, and John Laurens as a naval officer. Listed in Parrish & Willingham 10031.
