Notes he has heard that the Indians killed 11 men, 2 women, and 1 child near Marietta, Ohio [the "Big Bottom Massacre"]. Believes, "Every appearance indicates an extensive Indian War - great preparations must be made and probably great quantities of provisions will be required - I give you this in confidence as the measure are not yet decided upon by Congress But as soon as they shall be it will be necessary to proceed with great vigor." Says yesterday this country was "surprised by a hot press, which like an explosion swept between 3 & 4000 seamen, and to day we find the course in a Message sent by the King to the House of commons." Evidently, two Spanish ships of war seized two British ships that were trading off the northern coast of America. All of the men who were aboard were sent to a Spanish port as prisoners. Knox has received Davis's letter of November 6, "but has not had time to have prepared and executed power of attorney for the sale of Mrs. Knox's lands." Tells Davis that his European merchants would surely be interested in his "excellent grey and yellow oak lumber which has been seasoned in the fall water for three years."

Declares that Samuel Shaw carries with him "most all the Woolens, which are by far the most salable at this season of the year," and will also bring Knox a receipt which they would like him to sign in order to "prevent very Possible risk and Inconvenience on your part."
