Peter Robert writes that preparations for war are being made with great "alacrity" in the City, and many individuals are employed in the task of sinking vessels and keeping ships away from New York. He complains that he is troubled by his family; and notes that their Congress has passed a resolution that agrees to allow George Washingston to vacate the city when ever he judges it appropriate. Printed by John Carter. Stab-stitched. Contains act freeing Quaco, a former slave, as reward for providing information about Newport after it had been seized by the British (pp. 4-5). We know of four African-American Spies, one for the British in New York, and the other three for the Americans: James Lafayette Armistead (who operated near Cornwallis in 1781), Peck (who operated in the Hudson River Valley in 1781) and Quaco. Quaco is believed to have been the first African-American spy during the Revolution. The pamphlet also has documentation for payment to two African-American privates…

Documenting the Revolutionary War service of four African-American soldiers, Prince Green, Pharoah Hazard, Vaughn Prince and Bristol Rhodes. Hazard served in the 1st RI Reg. Rhodes served with RI troops in 1776 and 1778, and lost a leg at Yorktown. Prince is known to have served with RI troops in 1776. Green is known to have served with the 1st RI in 1778. Draft resolution of the Society of the Cincinnati, State of Massachusetts, to return the membership fees of Luke Day and Elijah Day for "openly joining & leading & conducting the late rebellion in this Commonwealth," and thus having "rendered themselves particularly odious & obnoxious to this Society." The resolution was apparently later published in the Columbian Centinel, relating to Shay's Rebellion.

Writes to Maunsell on behalf of Moses Hazen. Notes Hazen served in the last war and has been confined for several years to his bed from a stroke. Says Hazen's ill health has also caused embarrassment to Hazen's pecuniary affairs. Congress had promised Hazen indemnification for the loss of Hazen's British half pay. Knox asks Maunsell to apply to Mr. Brett for an official certificate from the British pay office. Noted as a copy on the docket.
