Provides a long analysis of political events in Rhode Island, including a recent setback to the "People's cause," the possibility of registering voters, and holding a democratic convention to nominate Martin Van Buren for President. Discusses at some length the situation of the people of Rhode Island and compares their plight to that of Russian serfs. Dorr led the Dorr Rebellion over suffrage rights in Rhode Island. The address identifies Carroll as the editor of the New Hampshire Patriot.

Bingley's estate, who died in Morgan County on December 4, 1836. Attested by Aaron Will. Executed one month after Lincoln was admitted to the Illinois bar and two weeks before he became Stuart's partner.

The issues contain information on the 14th Amendment & impeachment of [Andrew] Johnson, speeches of Sumner, women's suffrage, and advertisements for colored soldiers to collect bounties.

Republican campaign ribbon supporting Abraham Lincoln for President printed with "Wide Awake," and a large eye. Printed on white silk. Thousands of young men turned out in "Wide Awake" torchlight parades in support of Lincoln. The Wide Awakes are credited with helping Lincoln win the Republican presidential nomination at the Wigwam convention Hall in Chicago. Their stand against slavery helped bring the party to greater national attention.

VII, An act for the more easy recovery of debts in his majesty's plantations and colonies in America." Establishes a law to coordinate debtors' laws throughout the colonies in order to facilitate British creditors' collection of debts. The act subjects all colonial debtors' property to the claims of his British creditor. With separate blank sheet of paper.

Reports that General Washington ordered the officers of each state in the army under his immediate command to meet to give their decision on the Congressional resolution of 23 March (this offered five years pay as commutation instead of half-pay pensions for life). Says that the Massachusetts line is meeting at the public building at New Windsor next Friday and wants Knox and the other Massachusetts officers at West Point to be there. Asks that he collect their sentiments and pass them along by the time of the meeing if they cannot make it.

Written and signed in a secretarial hand for General Knox by his aide-de-camp Major Samuel Shaw. References Heath's letter of 7 August. Says with respect to John Shaw he can only extend his furlough as only the commander in chief can offer a discharge (see GLC02437.02360). Says that is impossible now as Washington is on a visit to Congress. Second page is a copy of another letter in the hand of Samuel Shaw (he accidently signed the letter and then crossed out his signature). This letter refers to John Shaw's poor health and need for a longer furlough. Says it was extended until next April.
