Philip expresses some concern regarding an affair with Captain Arthur and the Sherrif, and fears he may be expected to pay some money as a result. He also discusses his difficulty in finding men to work at the newly constructed iron works, and how frustrating it is to see the new works left idle. Pages 2 & 3 are another letter dated 19 October 1742. Philip expresses joy and relief at the news of Capt. Boyd's escape from the enemy and subsequent arrival in Amsterdam. He also mentions his fear of a war with the French, especially since the frontiers are open and particularly vulnerable…

Philip writes that Indians have contested the Livingston's right to a section of the Manor, and claim that they acquired it through illegal means. However, he notes that the contested area is so small, that he will let it go, rather than become involved in a protracted lawsuit.

Title: Affidavit regarding letters to Josias Loomes

In the affidavit, Robert Livingston, Jr. states that the two preceding letters addressed to Josias Loomes are true copies of the originals, and were delivered to Josias Loomes. The first letter is dated 17 January 1752, and instructs Loomes to remove himself from Robert, Jr.'s land, as he has caused a great deal of trouble and mischief. The second letter is dated 4 February 1752, and gives a severe warning to Loomes that he will be ejected and arrested if he does not remove himself from the Manor.

The Justices wrote the letter in response to a dispute between the Councill and the Assembly of New York regarding the "amending of money Bills." In the letter, the Justices find in favor of the Councill, as they charge the Assembly with "a Dimunition of his Majes. Royall Prerogative," and claim that the Assembly will be justly punished and reprimanded.
