Copy of the mortgage agreement. As Read was living in Gravesend, England at the time, the document is signed by a public notary from England stating she appeared. Barroll assigned the mortgage to John G. Lantz on 4 June 1864. Samuel Spier signed as a witness. With United States inter revenue foreign exchange stamps and life insurance stamps.

Particularly focuses on the corruption of the counselors and ministers who surround the governor and prevent the voice of the people from reaching Cosby. Includes an update on the War of the Polish Succession. Reports the capture of a suspect carrying counterfeit bills from Connecticut. Also signed by Daniel Davis as Solicitor General of Massachusetts, and Andrew Cunningham as Foreman. Contemporary copy of the decision in the case of two printers, Thomas Rowe and Joshua Hooper, accused of sedition against the government of the United States. Hooper and Rowe were publishers of a newspaper, "The Yankee." On 20 January they printed a slanderous and malicious article criticizing the legislature of Massachusetts for weakening on the issue of Massachusetts seceding from the United States. Title: [Clipping from the Yankee newspaper criticizing the Massachusetts legislature]

Article clipped from the Yankee newspaper criticizes the Massachusetts legislature for backing down on the issue of Massachusetts seceding from the United States and calls them a "lifeless body." Puts the blame on Governor Caleb Strong of Massachusetts. The two publishers of the Yankee newspaper, Joshua Hooper and Thomas Rowe, were accused of sedition against the United States government for printing this article. Date inferred from content. See GLC06417.01 for the jury decision in the case.

Partially printed circular letter to the Sheriff of Montgomery County ordering that Philip Capeland be taken into custody and transported to the Court House in Houston to answer to the charge of "Groce Contempt." Signed by Lubbock in his capacity as the clerk of the Harris County district court. Docket, signed by Sheriff Fitzgerald, indicates the letter was returned on 4 October 1844 not executed because Capeland was not found in the county.

Signed by Stewart as district clerk pro tem of Montgomery County, Texas. An affidavit submitted on behalf of Thomas J. Wood, the defendant in the case of Joseph Lundley v. Thomas J. Wood, indicating that Wood "cannot safely go to the trial...owing to the prejudice which exists in the minds of the people of Montgomery County." Wood desired a change of venue for the case.

Also signed by the auditor, "Jno. M. Smisher." Partial printed document certifies that Blount was owed $153.75 for "attendance as Witness, San Augustine County." A signed, handwritten statement by Blount, dated 18 January 1851 and stamped by a notary public of San Augustine County, transfers the debt to W.B.M. Shun. A note signed by Shun indicates he received payment on 8 May 1852. Document designated "No. 89" and stamped "paid."

In his absence, Tayloe authorizes Lomax, his attorney, to act as a trustee of the estate of the deceased Ralph Wormeley. As trustees, Tayloe and Lomax transfer a parcel of Wormeley's land to Samuel Layre, who bought the land in a private sale. Document is frayed along the edges, resulting in some text loss.

Title: [Act in addition to another act prohibiting the importation of slaves]

Passed by Congress and approved by the President. Outlines the ban on importing slaves, the forfeiture of ships built for such a purpose, and the penalties for involvement in the slave trade. The act being added to prohibited the importation of slaves as of 1 January 1808. The names of Henry Clay (Speaker of the House), John Gaillard (President of the Senate, pro tempore) and President James Monroe are printed at the end. The date is the day Monroe approved the act.
