Talks of the fight at Manassas (First Battle of Bull Run) in which 11000 union soldiers lost their lives. As letter was probably written for Theodore, the quote "write soon to Theodore" makes sense.

Comments that Lieutenant Forrest has been home three times since they started marching and plans on going home again. Reports that Lieutenant Forrest went to trial and was found guilty of some of the charges. He was sentenced to be reprimanded by General George McCall. A long white Government Repair Shop stretches across the image with a large group of workers standing on the wooden sidewalk out front. Two men are off by themselves, one of whom appears to be either a soldier or policeman, on the right side of the image near a blurry figure in civilian clothes. Washington became a major center for army services during the war.
