Discusses telephone call they had and their ambivalent feelings about Passover. He had asked about the tires on the car and she discusses her little use of it. She asks about sending him salami. Notes she enjoyed his editorial about Russia and says there is a split feeling in NYC about the fate of the Russians. She closes with statement that she is going to hear Joseph Curran speak on The CIO and the Community.

Plans were made up for activity in the areas of child care, alleviation of the black markets, efforts to obtain labeling on cans and jars describing contents, to increase pressure on Federal, State and City law makers and to educate all people on the points described above. Asks Moe to write her Dad. Heard of two train wreaks in Philadelphia and Chicago, which makes her nervous that something like that would happen if he gets a furlough.

Sylvia talks about food and clothing available at his Camp [Lewis]. Just heard in the office that Italy has unconditionally surrendered and that Russia will be a party to the exact terms. Says another phase of the War is over and it means that it is one step closer to his coming home, and that many lives will be saved by this. Moe has now been in the Army for six months. She is glad his hay fever is not bothering him.

Written at home, Friday night. Sylvia took the car to work because Mad (sister) was able to get gasoline for 50 cents a gallon after waiting in line for an hour. Had three emergencies in Intake. She has also arranged to buy 400 tickets from the Paramount at 38 cents apiece to resell for 55 cents apiece to raise funds for the Union. Reports on his family. Went to see her mother, who wasn't home. The neighbors offered her a drink "but she is still on the wagon" even though her condition is gone. Talks about remembering him in civilian clothes.

Written at 4:35 PM at the office. Today is Sylvia's birthday and the girls at work gave her a lovely corsage. Is happy that Moe told her he may be shipped out, as she always wants to know what is going on with him. Agrees with him that Italy's surrender is not too be cause for too much joy, as it is now the German's first line of defense and they will fight for it. Knows his chances of getting into OSS are nil.
