Title: [Petition for Falmouth lands in Maine]

Previous research suggests the document was written in May 1796; that date was added in pen on page one at a later time. A petition on behalf of several members of the Waldo and Winslow families for a portion of the Falmouth lands in Maine. A note at bottom says that the letter was sent to General Henry Knox via Joseph Peirce. Signed by Samuel Waldo on behalf of William Wetmore, Sarah Waldo Wetmore, Elizabeth Winslow, Lucy Waldo, Isaac Winslow, and George W. Irving.

Winslow informs Knox that he is "suffering much injury from Pillagers upon your Lands in Falmouth." Winslow says that "the Secretary of the Treasury, has instituted an investigation of the Conduct of the Marshal of this District, in consequence of some complaints exhibited against Him, in a Letter to the President." Winslow asks that Knox not tell the attorney, Mr. Davis, that he wrote or knows about the matter. Winslow hopes that Knox could perhaps mention him to fill the position of Marshal of the District.

Winslow informs Knox, "I have pursued unremittingly the Steps requisite to promote your desire of speedily commanding monies for some of your Lots in Falmouth, as express'd in your last Lettr." Winslow explains whom he has been in contact with and who has interest in purchasing the lots, including "Capt. S. Noyes." Land belonging to Mrs. Flucker and Mr. Waldo have been reduced, Winslow writes. Winlsow expects that Knox will keep to his word about deals and interest agreements he has made. Winslow breaks down how the Waldo land holding have been distributed among the Waldo heirs.

Extracts are included which list out who the land was sold to and the amount of taxes paid. Expresses his desire to prevent future lands from being sold for taxes in the future.

This agreement says that "the subscriber expecting dayly to receive from Daniel Davis Esq. of Portland, an account of the sales of property in Falmouth hereby pledges himself as soon as he shall receive such account ...that he will transmit to Mrs. Bridge...an order for the amount which will probably be from 1400 to 1500 Dollars." Docket notes this document was given to Moses Copeland for Mr. Bridge.

Was in Boston six weeks previously and saw Joseph Peirce, who "was making inquiries of me respecting Uncle Fluckers interest in Falmouth, and I think he was of opinion, that it would be best to make partition of such lands as were undivided, with the heirs of Uncle Francis Waldo & Isaac Winslow; it is what I very much wish to have done, as I am persuaded it is for the interest of all the heirs..." Complete title is "Lots drawn by Thomas Flucker Esqr. in the partition of the Estate of Brigr Genl S. Waldo lying in the Town of Falmouth, made amongst his Heirs 1765." The first portion of the document contains a numbered list of land lots. The second portion of the document, written in the same hand as the first, is labeled "Notes by Samuel Winslow Esqr. Septemr 1797." Contains a variety of notes pertaining to the lots. Several notes are added in the same hand and dated as late as 1799.
