He was especially struck by Herron's "denunciation of the American people for not having fulfilled its vocations." He disagrees with Herron's handling of Church and State, accusing the author of "pouring old wine into new bottles."

A partial reproduction of a statement by von Braun that originally appeared in an article contained in "This Week Magazine," included with the Charlotte Observer issue of July 18, 1965. The statement was from a interview discussing the relationship between science and religion, in which von Braun sees the two as compatible. von Braun states that the destructive forces unleashed by modern science have led people to return to religion for a means to control this awesome power. Signed and dated for inclusion with Bishop Earl Hunt's autograph collection.

Reports that Captain Elsworth and two other men were recently killed "by the Indiands [sic] they took three prisoners also amongst the latter is one of my Compy..." Refers to an order for thread and paper (possibly used in musket cartridges) requested by Moodie. Adds that Mr. [Brewster] will inform him "of the recruits so long expected from Capt. Mathias." Written at Phillipsburg (present-day Sleepy Hollow, New York).
