Pitkin sends thanks for all of Livingston's efforts on his behalf in the matter of runaway indentured servant Edward Blake. According to news picked up by Pitkin, the English have captured the French port city of St. Malo, complete with "very much shipping there," and King William's forces have defeated France at the Battle of Flanders. Pitkin claims that the deposed King James led a squadron of ships to Scotland, where they were defeated by a joint Anglo-Dutch fleet. Title: to Robert Livingston re: Harwood's business dealings with Thomas Dongan

Harwood recounts the difficulties in causing former Governor Dongan to pay his debts. Dongan was indebted to Harwood, and when Harwood decided to take legal action, Dongan bribed two clerks to withhold Harwood's petition from the council of the treasury for five weeks, after which time the council ruled in Harwood's favor. Furthermore, Harwood discusses the loss of confidence in shipping due to King William's "ill success" in Flanders and the loss of the Turkish fleet, which caused investors to be wary of such potentially risky investments. Title: Indenture between Livingston, William Kidd and Richard Blackham re: privateering

Indenture for one-fifteenth of the share of "goods m[er]chandizes or . . . other thiungs of value" amassed by Captain Kidd and his crew of the Adventure Galley, in their privateering efforts in the Red Sea. Detailed to seek the pirates who preyed upon ships from "new England R[h]ode Island, New Yorke & Elsewhere", Kidd and his crew were promised pay only upon the capture of a pirate ship. Blackham is offered a full refund in the event that Kidd fails in his charge.
