Knox, Commander at West Point, writes to business partners William Duer and Daniel Parker: "A very considerable part of the Garrison, upwards of two hundred, are at this time sick with the measles and there are more to have them,- In this situation, fresh meat is absolutely essential to their well being-" Requests beef, veal, mutton, "or other small meats," to be sent to West Point immediately.

Asks Knox to protect two ladies, "the two Mrs. Wallaces," whose husbands are among those leaving prior to the evacuation, though they chose to stay: "Those ladies mean to remain in their houses in New York, and must on this occasion feel themselves unprotected, and perhaps may be exposed to insults from the vulgar." Signed by various underwriters. A policy of assurance for Henry Knox. Insures various amounts of money for cargos shipped between Thomastown [Thomaston, Maine?] to Bermuda. The vessel is insured for risk of "capture & condemnation" only, cargo is covered against all risks. Various sums of money are also listed next to each underwriter's signature. Noted recorded on 24 August 1797. Docket notes received 30 December 1797. Document is partially printed with information written by hand.

Colonel Laurens communicates George Washington's request that Knox send "one of the pieces taken in the Redout [sic] by the french troops...to the regiment of Gattenois." This was in accordance with general orders issued 20 October 1781. The ordnance was seized in the Battle of Yorktown. Laurens had marched to Yorktown as an aide to General George Washington.
