No addressee is listed, but likely is Bradshaw Hall, register of deeds for Castine, Maine (see GLC02437.07992 for Hall's response to this letter). Encloses deeds and powers of attorney respecting the lands of the Ten Proprietors (not present). Would like Reed to record them and send them back to him by the next post. Also asks him to certify on a separate sheet that they have been recorded. Provides information on several of the proprietors and outlines what else he would like Reed to do with the documents.

Contains two letters. In the first, of 27 September, Knox writes that he was unable to call upon Rice when Knox visited the "eastern country" recently. Writes that he is an agent of part of the Waldo patent, as he is executor for the recently deceased Thomas Flucker, and a representative of Hannah Flucker. Asks Rice to send him any transactions for the land of the Waldo patent, as well as mortgages and deeds. The second letter, of 4 October, is on a similar topic.

Colonel David Humphreys, an aide-de-camp of General George Washington, writes that a Captain Moody [likely Captain Andrew Moodie] applied to Head Quarters to encamp his company and proposed temporary annexation of, and encampment with, the 2nd Regiment Artillery. General Washington had no problem with the plan, but wanted to clear these sorts of proposals through department heads, so Moody was referred to Knox. Below the note and his signature, Knox notes an order to Mr. [John] Ruddock, Commissary at Fishkill, of four thousand eight hundred musket cartridges.

Informs Colonel Hughes, Deputy Quartermaster of Military Stores (or any of his deputies at Fishkill), that harness makers formerly of Colonel Baldwin's regiment are to join Captain [Thomas] Patten's company "for peculiar public reasons." The company will march from New Windsor the following day. Says he will be "answerable for the measure, to the commander in chief and Colonel Pickering." Knox signs a note on the bottom of the page, indicating "Roman Hazard" should be ordered to join them at New Windsor as soon as possible.
