Comments on aging and the loss of their husbands. Reflects on the end of life and hopes it will be peaceful. Based on the context of the letter, it appears to have been sent to Ann Maitland. Received a report that five hundred armed men were assembled in the Davistown area to march to Castine and rescue two prisoners. Discusses his attempts to gather information about the revolt, and the people he found involved. Also relates threats against his life for being a spy.

Discusses importing clergy members from Britain, as well as belief in the supernatural in rural Maine. Explains his belief in religion. Apparently is recommending that Knox ensures that a new clergy member from Britain, a Mr. Chillea, enjoys the approval of local churchgoers before Knox finalizes his employment.
