Comments "I think all over the land there is deadness in the church owing to the bitter feeling between the Political parties in the Election this fall..." Discusses John St. John and the Prohibition party. Claims, "The Prohibitionist is here to stay..." Mentions he would like to visit. Declares "...a republican would be about as safe in the south as a St. John's man in Urbana..." Letter has several holes.

Letter addressed "Dear friend Joe." Reports the winter has been severe with much snow. Discusses duck and rabbit hunting. Comments businesses are failing and real estate values continue to fall. Mentions crop yields will be lower this year due to damage sustained in the January thaw. Letter continues on 2 April 1885, and is unsigned and incomplete. However, based on handwriting similarity, place of writing, and content, the author may be R. H. Silfer, Maitland's correspondent in GLC03523.10.199.

Created by William Albee and Joseph Pierpont, with additional notes by John Peters. Lists the names of inhabitants of specific areas of the land. Meticulous in detail, the survey includes numbers of trees, etc., and presents analyses of the land for potential use.

Philips, Crammond & Co. are concerned about insurance coverage. In response, Shaw and Randall are forwarding the bills of lading and invoices for the ship "Washington." Shaw and Randall report that "Gen. Knox and Mr. Anthony are informed fully of the state of our concerns with G Bell & Co - and are ready for the issue."

Notes that if Craigie declines the position, they will have to find a person "of solidity enough to carry it through." The second part certifies that Henry Jackson has presented and read all of the necessary papers to Mr. and Mrs. Grégoire and that they have received money. Noted as dated 13 July 1792 and signed by Samuel Bradford. Third part certifies that Henry Jackson went with Samuel Bradford to deliver three bonds to Mr. and Mrs. Grégoire and asked for a warranty deed for the contract, signed by Levi Stutson.

Writes, "When I last saw the governor, he seemed undecided whether he should return until the fall - but I hope he will as his stay here will excite disa[illegible] sensations in the minds of some people." Also talks about officers who lost their horses in action at the Battle of Wabash (St. Claire's defeat, 4 November 1791) and have not been compensated yet. The last page is a later copy…
