Crocker, John Simpson, 1825-1890
Autograph letter signed
Title: to Harriette Crocker "Camp at Workwick [Warwick] Court House"
Partial letter to his wife discussing camp life and military operations during the Peninsula campaign Describes Union and Confederate entrenchments and troop numbers during the siege of Yorktown. In fact the Rebels had far fewer troops than Crocker cites here, but McClellan, as he often did, vastly overestimated his opponent's strength. Written at Warwick Courthouse.
