A print of a photograph taken of Zouaves of the 164th N.Y., "Corcoran's [Irish] Legion," in formation with line officers to the front on either side and a drummer on the left side of the image. The troops hold their rifles at the Support Arms position. Horse-drawn wagon and soldiers tents in background. The regiment was organized at New York City September and October 1862 by Micheal Corcoran who had been ordered to consolidate eight existing Irish regiments. An oval-shaped print of a photograph of Brigadier General George Stoneman (1822-1894) and four other officers sit on horses while Union soldiers stand on top of a cabin, stretching a canvas across the open roof. A tent has been erected next to the cabin and a woman dressed in a dark dress stands in front. An inscription on the reverse side reads: "Building winter quarters. Hedley says that the Brig. gen. in this plate should be easily identified. 15842 War." Title taken from this. A print of a landscape photograph of a military encampment near Bull Run, a tributary of the Occoquan River. The Orange and Alexandria railroad bridge on the right is of military construction and was constructed using prefabricated segments known as "shad-belly" trusses. A print of a photograph of boats in a river. Over a dozen boats can be seen. The titular pontoon bridge can be seen stretching across the horizon. Penciled below the image is: "Pontoon bridge across the James River over which the army of the Potomac passed on it [sic] way to Richmond, Va." The section of the River is likely that 'below' Richmond between the city and Hampton Roads. Written note on verso: "the ironclad in far right of photograph is the Monitor "Atlanta" (in handwriting of F.H. Meserve).

One photograph of a gunboat known as the Monitor Sangus dated 1864. Taken by Egbert Guy Fowx. The title is taken from the inscription on the recto. The image shows "Saginaw," a Federal steamer, and "Sangus," a monitor [ironclad], on the James River. The hull of "Sangus" appears to be painted white, and the canvas has been strung up over the deck to provide shelter from the elements. Army camp tents can be seen in the background along the opposite bank of the river.

Elisha Ely Camp was the Assistant Quartermaster of the United States Army, having been promoted to that position on August 3rd, 1861. Brevetted Lt. Col. at war's end, died 1867. Title taken from inscription on recto. Troops are lined up for inspection in the distance. They face the camp, which is laid out in company rows. The enlisted men's tents are on the right, and officers' tents can be seen running perpendicular to these. There are also two rows of small open ovens with chimneys where small groups of soldiers (or "messes") prepare their own meals. The camp appears to be in an orchard of some kind--fruit trees visible in between the tents.
