Written near Harrison's Landing, Virginia to his wife. Is happy that his sister, Wink, could visit his mother and notes that it will make both of them happy. States that they are getting a new regiment ready and comments that the work is dull and lonesome. He will try to send money as soon as he can. Says that he has not been out of the camp for a while and thinks the army will stay in this position during the summer and winter.
