He discusses the misunderstandings that lead Captain Obediah Wright, who was in the Georgia militia and under the authority of the Governor of Georgia William Rabun, to kill ten Chehaws and destroy their village. He orders Davis to send a "talk to Kinnard with instructions to explain the substance to the Chehaw Warriors." Also orders him to arrest Obediah Wright for murdering several female and elderly Chehaw Indians. If Davis is unable to locate Wright, he is instructed to obtain assistance from the governor of Georgia. Davis informs Georgia Governor Rabun that Obediah Wright, whom Davis arrested for massacring Chehaw Indians, has been released through a writ of habeas corpus. He requests that Rabun have Wright returned to his custody. The Chehaw were American allies in the first Seminole War. After the massacre, Jackson sent Davis to arrest Wright, who had been a member of the Georgia militia.

John Tyler writes to his son, Robert Tyler. He discusses the defeat of Judge Campbell, who had been rejected because he was a Roman Catholic: "to make a man's religious opinions the test for office is to break down the fairest and most beautiful pillar of the Constitution." He believes the Presidential election remains an open contest, and that his support of the tariff of 1842 would be a suitable point on which Robert Tyler might speak. He believes that Millard Fillmore is likely to obtain the Whig nomination. John Tyler was President of the United States from 1841 to 1845.

Winder, an American sailor had been stationed on the British ship "Vesuvius," under the command of Wise. Wise told Winder that he had boarded a ship, convinced she was "a slaver," but "could not touch her" because she flew the American flag.
