Engraved document signed by Adams as president and countersigned by James Barbour as secretary of war. Includes a paper seal. A note on the side signed by "R. Jones" indicated that it was "Registered Vol: 2 page 59" in the attorney general's office. Ripley later became a general in the Civil War.

Johnson relates that he is powerless to stop Lowry from being removed from his position as postmaster in Greeneville, Tennessee: "So you may consider the die as being cast." Mentions that an article will be released to the Nashville newspapers, such as the (Greeneville, Tennessee) Spy, regarding Lowry's removal. Counsels, "Do as Caesar did in the Roman Senate: adjust your robe and fall as decent as possible."

Letter written by Jackson as President, upset by the events surrounding the resignation of Major John H. Eaton as the Secretary of War. Jackson praises Eaton, as well as Martin Van Buren and Major William Berkeley Lewis for their loyalty. He attacks Vice President John C. Calhoun for what he sees as his plot to undue his administration in a "wicked depraved conspiracy," and regrets that he ever trusted Calhoun. Also attacks General Duff Green and his newspapers for being slanderous during this whole affair. The events referred to in this letter are all part of the notorious Petticoat Affair.…

Adams thanks Harris, the United States Charge d'Affaires in Russia, for obtaining and sending Adams' passport while Adams attended peace negotiations in Ghent. He refers to European peace proceedings in Vienna, stating that "The late symptoms of a coalition between France and England are the strongest guaranty of the continuance of Peace." He informs Harris that his wife, Louisa Catherine Adams, is in charge of several financial transactions in Adams' absence.

Speer and others sign the petition, directed to Governor Geary. Petitioners argue that a group of the Territory's best citizens are unjustly held in prison. The men were arrested for resisting the establishment of a pro-slavery government in Kansas. Signed by sixty five men, including Speer. Circa date based on the term of Geary's governorship of the Kansas Territory, which lasted less than one year.

Referring to Hispaniola, he states "there are no indications of either commercial or agricultural prosperity."
