Expresses gratitude that the treaty he and Isaac Shelby brokered with the Chickasaws met with then Secretary of War Calhoun's approval. In the treaty, the Chickasaw relinquished their claims to land east of the Mississippi River and north of the Mississippi state line and were given a $20,000, fifteen-year annuity. It will give offense to the whole whig party here, and be worse than a dead loss to the administration of so much patronage." Lincoln then recommends himself or his candidate for the position. Lincoln was not granted the position.
