States that Captain Charles Wilkes, leader of the Peacock and other vessels on the expedition, wrote for his warrant. Requests Elizabeth to give his love to family and friends in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Norfolk, Virginia.

Refers to the battle as "Perry's Battle," after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. Claims that he was the son of Revolutionary War soldier Simon Crosby. States that he resides in Adams County, Wisconsin.
