Also positions of the sun and moon and on the back, a list of the original 13 states and all the signers of the declaration. Records the weather. On February 23rd, he mentions the nomination of Mr. Fred S.M. Nelly for U.S. senate. On March 11, the daughter of an acquaintance was severely burned with camphine. Many entries are cross written. Newspaper clippings inserted throughout. Some expanded entries in the back. He mentions the son of Mr. Young who drowned.

Mentions church and bible class frequently. On July 22nd, he notes bad news from the battle of Manassas Junction. Reports say between 3,000 and 15,000 were killed.
