Rivington was a bookseller, printer, and journalist who came to America in 1760.

Responds to a letter from Knox with an apology for not fully paying a debt. Comments that it is the nature of the business conducted by him and his kinsman, Robert Fowle, "to credit out the chief of it for twelve months--without interest." Also attributes the delay to the fact that Robert recently returned from Philadelphia and has just recovered from smallpox. A postscript indicates that Oliver Whipple, Robert's attorney, has some money that can be used to pay the debt. Robert Fowle worked as a printer and publisher in Portsmouth and Exeter, New Hampshire until 1777.

Reaffirms their friendship, informs Knox of an upcoming trip to the country, and promises future correspondence upon his return. Troutbeck was a surgeon. Knox's last letters from him were written in December of 1770, when Troutbeck was finishing his medical exams (see GLC02437.00002 and GLC02437.00003).

M'Clure spells his name Maccluer.

Title: [Renting the estate of Isaac Gridley]

As mortgagee of Gridley's estate, Thomas Flucker of Boston issues this official document renting out the estate to Admiral John Montagu for an annual sum of eighty pounds. Montagu was then Commander-in-Chief of the North American station. Flucker's original signature has been cut out but a later one appears in a note below the original. The document was signed in the presence of William Bennett and one other man (name illegible).

Seeks advice from her friend Lucy, who became Lucy Knox in 1774. Inman married Linzee on 1 September 1772. A biographical note about Inman appears on the bottom and explains the letters' significance to the Linzee family.

He published Rivington's New-York Gazetteer.
