Marching for White Plains, and hopes to winter in New England. The British are in New York, though they are expected to decamp soon. The French have a great deal of shipping in New York and "tease" the British. Hears the town of Taunton, Massachussets, from where just was, is now offering a fifty pound bounty for Continental soldiers, and asks her to go and collect it for him. Letter is addressed to himself, but was clearly intended for his wife, Hannah Ball. The first line reads "Dear wife."

Written by Major General Sullivan to Steele as Paymaster General of the Army. Official note requesting payment of 100 dollars to Morris Gibbons for "bringing off" 3 British prisoners. Co-signed by Secretary Bryan Bruin and countersigned by Morris Gibbons that he received the money. Dated without a year as 9 November. The year 1778 is inferred because Sullivan was named commander of Rhode Island in early 1778 until March 1779.

Address leaf for a letter written to Brigadier General Ten Broeck, commander of the Albany County militiamen throughout the Revolutionary War. Sender sent the letter "On public Service," and appears to be with the "Office of the Secretary of the State." Signature appears to be "Rd Morris," but needs to be confirmed. A vocal patriot before the war, Ten Broeck's service during the war was laudatory. He became a New York state senator and Mayor of Albany after the war.

This pass gives permission to Captain John Norris of Colonel Samuel Johnson's regiment of militia from the state of Massachusetts Bay to return home with his company after completing their stipulated tour of duty. Written by Greene as Governor of Rhode Island to Compton as Town Sargent of Providence. Greene is informing Compton that he needs assistance in the movement of cannon requested by Major General John Sullivan on Rhode Island. Hopes he can arrange for "True friends to this Country" to assist in the effort of getting them aboard ships to send to Sullivan. Letter is badly faded at some points and some text loss has occurred. On verso, Compton has countersigned this request, stating he has warned the inhabitants of Providence. Asks for 18 shillings in fees. Greene then signs an order below…

Langdon thanks Gerry for his concern over his recent misfortune, and says he will make the best of it. Encloses a copy of his orders to Captain Nanning of the ship "Hector" and a memorandum of provisions he can collect so he can remain at sea until June 1, 1781 if necessary (the orders and memorandum are not included here). Langdon says he has not heard of or from Nanning since he sailed on January 25, 1781 with 97 men. Gerry was a Declaration of Independence signer and a member of the Continental Congress.

Lists payments by "Joseph Ingresoll & Co." to various men. Each man signs attesting that he has recieved money from Ingersoll for various reasons. The payments include buying a number of ships at auction. The ships were the "sloop Bazil...Ship Elizabeth Snow Fly & sloop Marcia." The payments total near 30,000 pounds. The men signing are James Tileston, William Wyen, W. Scallon and Samuel Newhall. Also named in the document as being included in these accounts are Moses Little and Nathaneal Tracy. Pratt and Haywad both sign as witnesses, and list their company's and ranks as lieutenants.

Title: [Summary of troops and equipment surrendered to General Horatio Gates by General John Burgoyne]

An unknown person compiled statistics relative to Burgoyne's surrender to Gates after the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. The scrap of paper is dated in October 1781. Breaks down nationality of the captured soldiers, number of sick and wounded, types and number of artillery and small arms captured, etc. Also written on the sheet is a receipt for Daniel Epir to receive payment from Samuel Emory. On verso, in what appears to be an unrelated to the summary of captured troops, is a partial list of payments due to soldiers. They could be troops under Gates's command.

Upon being informed that Nantucket residents were trading with the British on one of the Elizabeth islands Captain Claghorn investigated and took two prisoners. One man, John Walter Fletcher, is being sent to Newport, the other, Job Halsey, was sent to the County Committee for a further investigation. Since Williams is on this committee, explains to him the details of the first examination of the prisoner. Halsey says he lived in Long Island, but left once the British took command there, since he favored independence. Moved to Connecticut and joined the army. Says that while returning home…

Letter written in a secretarial hand, by Major General Heath's secretary Seth Loring, and signed by Heath. A request for payment of a soldier's wages sent to Ebenezer Hancock, Deputy Paymaster General of U.S. forces. John Black, a soldier in Captain Turner's company in Colonel Bradford's regiment was to receive "Twentysix Dollars & two thirds in full of four Months pay." Black was unable to withdraw his pay with the regiment because he was confined to the hospital. Note on verso, signed by John Black, states he received the money.

Written by Major General Ward as commander of the Eastern Department (he was succeeded by Major General William Heath in March 1777) to Ebenezer Hancock as Deputy Paymaster General of U.S. forces. Order to pay Thomas Urann, Director of the Carpenter, forty six pounds and ten shilling, equal to 155 dollars, which was October's pay for him and the carpenters under him. On verso is breakdown of the pay for the carpenters. Urann made 6 pounds as foreman and the 9 "artificers" under him made 4 pounds 10 shillings each. Countersigned to by Thomas Urann that he received the money.
