Written by Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide, and signed by Shaw on Knox's behalf. Covers many aspects of the defense of West Point and the need to avoid a surprise attack. Knox gives instructions pertaining to arms and ammunition, sentries, guardhouses, closing of the gates, provisions, alarms, and signals. Signed by eight officers commanding redoubts and forts in the vicinity of West Point. These men acknowledge receipt of Knox's instructions.

Writes, "I would long ago have sent you the Irish Editions you wanted but on examining found I had no quantity to make up a parcell [sic]... I now trouble you with 6 Dozen of my almanack with a list of the whole American Army Subalterns included which never was done before & will be much demanded by the military..." Also transmits a parcel for D. Philips of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and some pills Rivington claims can cure a great number of [ailments?].

Webb explains why he could not reply earlier to Platt, defending Platt's accusations of neglecting his correspondence. Relates he was ill when receiving two of Platt's notes, and had company when Platt's third note was delivered. Recently manned a barge upriver (possibly the Hudson), at the request of General Henry Knox. Notes that the barge has taken one more trip up the river, for the purpose of transporting Webb's private stores. Has no objection to Platt using the barge when it returns.
