Reports that the society members agreed wholeheartedly but adds that he has had some trouble acquiring hard money because there is currently a scarcity of it in North Carolina. Also discusses his efforts to increase attendance at society meetings, and mentions the election of delegates to the next general meeting. Mentions "the probability that the Indians have done some mischief" in the area.

In the hand of William Knox. Replies to a letter from Faesch in which Faesch informed Knox of the death of his wife (GLC02437.03808). Offers Faesch his deepest sympathy and condolences, writing: "We suffer excessive misery at the loss of our dearest connections, but time sooth's and pours his balm into our wounds- We find we must, and that it is truly wise to submit patiently to events we can neither command or avert." Writes that the bearer of the letter, Captain Thomas Vose, will "make an establishment at the fort and block house farms for our mutual interests." Believes the people of Thomaston (Maine) will accept Captain Vose, and hopes that Fales and Vose will work well together. Has told Vose of his high esteem for Fales. Is unsure whether he will be able to visit the patent lands again during the present year. Asks Fales to present his compliments to the people generally in Thomaston.

Discusses pensioners of the Revolution, especially the fact that he feels that "this State has judged her citizens so grudgingly & so exclusively that she has not her just number & those who are pensioned do not receive enough." Asks Knox for his help in supporting this cause. Mentions the Waldo patent, saying without fully understanding the subject he does believe the settlers pose any danger to the heirs of the patent.

Will compensate Fales for his troubles.
