Long was a veteran artilleryman promoted from military secretary for Lee to the command of the 2nd Corps artillery. Promoted to 2nd Corps guns in 1863 at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor. Surrendered with the main army at Appomattox. Civil engineer after the war for five years. Wrote "Memoirs of Robert E. Lee" despite being completely blind.

Letter copied by "M.S.W" (possibly General William Worth's daughter, Margaret. Worth's wife, Margaret Stafford Worth, died in 1869). Describes events of the Mexican War, including General Winfield Scott's march toward Mexico City via Cerro Gordo and Puebla. Discusses whether Scott issued an order that was received by the Mexican army. William Jenkins Worth served in the War of 1812, and was a General in the Mexican American War. Johnson, a Confederate general, had served under Scott during the Mexican War.

Assures that Hunt's filly "was honestly come by, by the said Hunt, and was not captured, or taken as a prize of war, or as abandoned rebel property, or on any other customary and larcenous pretext, Now, therefore, said Lee out of Natural love and affection for said Hunt, and from considerations of patriotism... doth consent & agree to take said Filly, and tend her carefully, in like manner with his own blooded colts, free of charge to said Hunt... " Possibly created by Lee. Lee was an ordnance officer in the war.

Hale, Hiram Barney and John Jay, the New York Politician and descendant of the earlier John Jay, as a committee appointed by the State Convention of the Free Democracy. Urges support for anti-Nebraska candidates in forthcoming elections. "The Nebraska bill passed the senate at midnight, amid oaths and drunken insolence desecrating that once august chamber...With the passage of the bill that removed the landmark of freedom, and opened our western territories to the curse of slavery..."

Printed pamphlet written by King as an anti-slavery U.S. Senator from New York. King also signed the U.S. Constitution in 1787. King was asked to write the pamphlet, which summarized his two anti-slavery speeches given before the U.S. Senate during the Missouri Compromise debates of 1819. This is the only record of the speeches, as they were not recorded for the official records of Congress. King was the floor leader of the Federalist Party in the Senate during the debates, but his views were held by both Federalist and Republican Party members in the North. Broadside announces a meeting scheduled at "Volunteer Hall" to hear the report of the Committee on organizing the Mutual Draft-Preventing Association. This was a pro-quota meeting to avoid a draft by getting volunteers. Says the business must be completed in 3 days and that those "who have not paid their Assessments be sure to come Prepared To Pay, and have this thing finished up." Lee has sent in the flag of truce. "Lee sent in Flag of Truce, asking cessation hostilities to enable him bury his dead. [General George] Meade replied only conditions was unconditional surrender."
