Her sister will no longer eat any meat for fear of the disease. The war has jaded her. Sometimes she thinks it might be better "to die than to live in this dreary world."

[sister] Though the only signature that appears on this letter is that of Thomson A. Sharpshire, the writing is in the same hand as another sent to Miller from his sister. However, it does not match the handwriting of another of Miller's sisters, M. Y. Wright. The author mentions that she had gone up to Atlanta to see off a troop of Georgian soldiers, but that they had already departed by the time that she arrived. The author wonders what happened since he or she received reports of Miller getting married. Evidently he did not go through with the marriage. Miller's sister tells him that…

[niece] Judging by the handwriting, it is probable that it is a young girl. Presumably it is written to Miller A. Wright, though his name does not appear anywhere on the letter. Sentimental description of home life. Mother is making Grandpa a "pear" of gloves. "Don't you want a pair?" the writer asks. She and the other children "send…(Miller)…a kiss-and want to see…(him)…soon.'
