Explains that settling and clearing new land is a difficult endeavor that requires fortitude, and hopes the settlers will be able to accomplish it.

The men were sent to the Springfield [Massachusetts] Laboratory to serve under Captain Lieutenant John Bryant. Knox requests blank discharge forms to be sent to Captain Bryant.
