Title: [Report of ammunition in artillery reserves, ammunition train]

Captain Stanton lists shot, shrapnel, shell, and canister. Also transmits the report of the Quartermaster of wagons. Directs this report to Captain Whittelsey, possibly Henry Martyn Whittelsey, an Assistant Adjutant General. Includes several charts pertaining to artillery stores. Probably written in Virginia before the Battle of Cold Harbor. Written in pencil.

Reports on the city of Baltimore at the beginning of the Civil War. Writes that the city has been much more quiet, "tho' the streets are full of uniforms." He tried to send flour to someone and was informed that "no flour or provisions of any kind to be sent from the city." States that he took the silver and put it in the bank. Asks if he wants to keep his horses in town.

Writes to his uncle that he is doing okay financially unless something unanticipated happens. Reports on the city of Baltimore at the beginning of the Civil War. "...the boys who crowded the streets selling secession flags have entirely disappeared, ... I did not see a single individual with one pinned to his coat ... it is the impression of the Union men that the other side is intimidated." Informs that the city has been very quiet after the last few days of excitement. Remarks on the military men strutting in their uniforms, but feels that "some of the better class of them show anxiety…

Reports to his uncle on the city of Baltimore at the beginning of the Civil War. States that everything is quiet. Asks him for some financial advice and states that there is no news in copper. Encloses some letters from others. Remarks upon the economy and rising prices in Baltimore, "No business of any kind doing, partners all drilling in the 'Home Guard' clerks in the 'Maryland Gds.' Flour $10 per bbl for family. Potatoes $1.00 to $1.25 per bus. I don't know what the poor people will do if this continues."

Writes to his uncle about Baltimore at the beginning of the Civil War. States that all is still quiet. Mentions some people who have evacuated but he feels these fears are groundless. Reports, "7 out of the 10 Delegates to the Assembly from Balt declared themselves to the Sheriff, who gave them their certificates, in fav[or] of passable measures & against Secession in any shape."

Informs that the military might be disbanded soon, "...as there is not now any probability of mobs & street fights..."

Undated, unsigned letter with a later note in pencil at top declaring, "Extract from Rodman's letter to Nancy Maxwell-." The writer gives her memory of a Friends Meeting where Rachel Howland rose and asked the congregation to pray for those in slavery as well as men fighting on the battlefields of the Civil War. States that it was very emotional scene.

Various Southern news items are combined on the front page, with an excerpt of Mr. Everett's speech at Gettysburg. A letter from McClellan to General B.F. Butler defines Butler's assignment. A letter to the editor expresses support for the Journal's Union patriotism. An editorial marks the need for states to express their concern with the Union, using Tennessee as an example, and another editorial examines money, taxes, and currency.

Lovejoy's Bill to Punish Slave Holding, Rebel Losses at Knoxville. The front page of this issue includes the address of Lieutenant General R.T. Jacob upon taking his seat as the presiding officer in the Kentucky Senate, with minutes from the Kentucky Legislature. Minutes from the local Board of Aldermen meeting are included. The Governor of Kentucky responds to Lincoln's request for volunteers, filling the necessary quota.
