Signed by Captain T.B. Tearse as the commander of the post at Albany. Provision return for rations issued to Colonel James Livingston from 1-31 August 1783. A total of 155 rations were issued over 31 days. The rations were issued "agreeable to a Resolution of Congress." Note on verso signed by Colonel Livingston stating that he received the rations from contractors. No place written, but could possibly be Albany, New York.

Written by Assistant Adjutant General Carlile to Major General Knox. Says he wants to set out for his home as soon as he can procure transportation for his baggage. As he can only be considered on furlough until the conclusion of peace, he asks "that I may be permitted to take my Servant (who is a black lad of the Massach[usetts] Line in Col H. Jacksons regimt.) with me." Knox later gave permission, see GLC02437.02458.

Title: Disposal of Sixty three hogshead of clothing received for the Corps of Artillery in 1778

Signed for Knox by Samuel Shaw, Knox aide-de-camp. Large chart describing amounts of clothing (hats, coats, vests, woolen breeches, linen breeches, leather breeches, shirts, socks, overalls, stockings, shoes, and blankets) distributed to various units in the artillery. Note on page two says the shipment was sent by public agents from Boston, Massachusetts to Fishkill, New York. From there part of it was sent to White Plains, New York under the control of Captain Lillie, the brigade quartermaster. Title: Articles of clothing delivered for the use of Major General Knox from 21 Jany 1780 to 1 Augt 1783

Copy of a receipt for clothing issued to General Knox from 1780-1783. Original was submitted by David Brooks, the assistant clothier general. This copy was created by Major Samuel Shaw, an aide-de-camp to General Knox, who also signed this document. A total of $140.60 worth of clothing is accounted for, which includes boots, blankets, roughly 50 yards of cloth, and his own miscellaneous receipts.

Title: Abstract of musters of the Northern Army for the month of August 1783

List of troops mustered in the Northern Army in August 1783. The list is divided between infantry and artillery and subdivided by rank. In the infantry there were 159 officers, 430 non-commissioned officers, and 2,864 privates. In the artillery there were 35 officers, 52 non-commissioned officers, and 245 privates. Signed by Major Barber, who was a member of General Horatio Gates's staff.

Order issued by Major Shaw, an aide-de-camp to General Knox, telling the commissary at West Point to issue 31 complete rations for Stephen A. Hopkins who was employed by the engineering department engraving cannons. Docket signed by the mark of a Sarah [Waner] stating that contractors delivered the rations.

Signed by Lieutenant Wright and Captain Lillie as an aide-de-camp to General Henry Knox. Provision return for four men in Lieutenant Wright's company employed by the ordinance department from 1-10 September. The return also includes rations issued to three women. The seven people were issued a total of 90 rations over the ten days. Docket signed by a William Burrows stating the rations were received.

Also requests an account of the 300 pairs of shoes that were delivered for the detachment of troops marching to Philadelphia under General Robert Howe.
