Informs the Board that George Washington has directed him to delay the transport of cannon and powder to New Windsor and Kings Ferry, New York, until [8] August. Small stores are to be sent to New Windsor as soon as possible. Writes, "The Army are in great distress for drums & fifes..." Contains a note written on page three, written by Knox's aide Samuel Shaw, in which Knox requests sheepskins. Also docketed by Shaw. Written at Philipsburgh, New York (near present-day Tarrytown).

I am alone amidst a croud [sic], and unhappy without my companion." He bemoans the War: "...vile I call it because it is a War upon the affections of humanity. It has deprived us of the right enjoyment of six years, long years of our Life-- a period infinitely too long to be engrossed by other objects than the business of Love." Discusses a recent reconnaissance mission to assess the British force in New York City with optimism…

Knox writes to Colonel Pickering, Quartermaster General. Discusses the transport of lead, pistols, and other items to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Refers to shot, shells, and other ordnance gathered at various posts (New Windsor and Fishkill, New York; Hibernia, Mount Hope, and Pompton, New Jersey). Most of text on second page and docket appear to be written by Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide-de-camp.

Written at Fort Herkimer. Captain Moodie updates Knox on general news at the fort. Reports that the gun powder for the fort is stored in the cellar of a house occupied by eight or nine families. Worries that no work will get done due to a lack of provisions. Transmits muster rolls, asking Knox to pass them on to Major [John] Doughty. Complains that his company has no shoes. On verso, an autograph note signed ("HK") by Henry Knox specifies "Major Campbell will forward this on Sight, by Express."

Knox writes to Major William Perkins, overseer of stores at Providence, Rhode Island. "All the cannon & stores from Providence under you are to be transported to Fish Kill landing & there embark'd on board of vessels... & proceed to West Point..." The ships carrying stores are to float in the Hudson River by West Point above the chain (that laid across the Hudson), awaiting further orders.

Instructs Mitchell, Deputy Quartermaster General at Newburgh, New York, to expect stores arriving from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Orders Mitchell to forward the stores by ship to West Point, allowing the ships containing powder to remain at anchor in the Hudson near West Point, just above the chain (that crossed the Hudson). Written by Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide. Signed by Shaw for Knox. Contains two dockets. One states, "Elias Woodhull."
