Yates discusses the recent Stamp Act and declares: "The Stamp Act I believe appears to us as odious as to any of his Majesties American subjects but I think We are to Blame for not having Appeared in Publick for how is the World to know our Like or Dislike." He also notes that New York merchants seem more resolute in their opposition to the act, as they have refused to accept any shipments of goods while the act is in effect.

Peter Robert writes that he wishes he could confirm his father's report that the Stamp Act was repealed, but states that he has received no news in the affirmative. He notes, however, that there is now a great majority in opposition to the Act, and it appears that it will be repealed eventually. Title: to Robert Livingston, Jr. re: rumor of abuse of iron workers

Spencer writes that a dreadful rumor has been spread about Robert, Jr., claiming that he refused to pay his iron workers with money, and insisted that they accept goods as payment. When the workers declined to accept goods, he forced them into confinement for several hours and treated them with much abuse. According to Spencer, this has severely damaged Robert, Jr.'s reputation, and caused most of the iron workers to leave their jobs at Salisbury ore hill. Docketed on address leaf.
