Printed signature in Lincoln's hand beneath portrait: "Your obt. servt. A. Lincoln" Lincoln is seated in an armchair known as a "Brady Chair," which previously belonged to the House of Representatives. The original portrait was taken on November 8, 1863, shortly before Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg address. Philp & Solomons published this enlarged print in 1865. Identified numerically in Lloyd Ostendorf's published collection of Lincoln photographs as "O-79." Stained, with water damage. Fragile.

Shows Robert E. Lee as an older man in dark civilian clothing, seated in a room with an old mantel clock. The clock appears to have been insribed with "M.B. Brady, Washington, D.C." Marked in negative: "R.E. Lee." The numbers 1318 and 554 also appear on the plate. Loss at upper edge that does not affect the portrait.

Carte de visite negative. Crawford elegantly dressed as a civilian, standing with one foot forward and hand draped over a stand. Crawford served as a colonel in the 3d Ga. Inf. C.S.A. He also served as Confederate Commissioner to Washington, and was a member of the Provisional Congress from Georgia. "Original collodion negative by M.B. Brady." A long white Government Repair Shop stretches across the image with a large group of workers standing on the wooden sidewalk out front. Two men are off by themselves, one of whom appears to be either a soldier or policeman, on the right side of the image near a blurry figure in civilian clothes. Washington became a major center for army services during the war. Numerous government repair shops [some massive in size] employing hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers were established to keep the armies running. Numeric notation on verso: "XXIX" and "836."
