Written by Major General Gage to Lieutenant Colonel Bradstreet. Forgot to mention in his first letter that the mayor desired "the Smith's sheep" be delivered up to him. Says he thought it was mentioned to Bradstreet before, but that he could have possibly forgot. Written as the British military was occupying Boston and in the process of quartering troops in Boston.

Also signed by D. Green. Appears to be torn, as some text is missing from the left margin. Includes a list of privates, drum and fife and contains a reference (partial text loss obscures the phrase) to Peekskill, New York.

Written by Brigadier General Huntington to Captain Eldridge. Sends Eldridge an account of the money advanced by him for Eldridge's recruiting services. Begins 3 January 1777 and ends 17 June 1777 for a total of slightly over 649 pounds. Says he cannot send a receipt since they are at camp. Postscript says Eldridge has been moving around so much that the auditors have not been able to go over all his paperwork and as soon as they are done he will send the receipts to him.

Title: [Receipt to Jonathan Trumbull]

Colonel Kosciuszko, the famous Polish patriot, says he received two hundred dollars to Colonel Jonathan Trumbull, Jr., paymaster of the New York Department, for work in the engineering department. The payment was agreeable to Major General Horatio Gates. This payment could be for work done at the Battle of Saratoga. Kosciuszko fortified Bemis Heights overlooking the Hudson and his ingenious design contributed to the surrender of 6,000 troops under General John Burgoyne. On verso is another partial receipt for twelve dollars from Trumbull to a Frances Payne.

Documents the receipt from Major General Henry Dearborn of $10,000 for the defense of the Niagara frontier. Lewis was a former governor of New York who served as the quartermaster general of the United States army and also as a major general on the Niagara frontier during the War of 1812.

Written by General Ward as commander-in-chief of the army outside Boston to Colonel Foster. Says the bearer of this, Mr. Wood, was lately at Worcester and learned that the selectmen of the town are "binding out" people that can be called friends of the government if they will not join the army. Says it is extraordinary and unjustifiable conduct if it is true. Hopes he will take Wood's information and investigate the situation, claiming "I doubt not you will consult the Safety of the Individuals as well as of the Community."

Written the day after Warren assumed the presidency of the Massachusetts Provisional Congress from John Hancock. He wrote the letter "In Committee of Congress" to the Selectmen of Boston. Thanks them for their generosity toward the poor inhabitants of the city. Says "we cannot but Repeat our advise that the Committee of Donation would employ the Monies lodged in their Hands to facilitate their Removal." Says the Congress will not fail to help them and will try to get "our friends in the Country" to find places to live for them. Says those trying to get into Boston will be allowed to pass…

Title: [Sentence of court martial on Captain Eliphalet Thorp]

Thorp was tried for "abusing and plundering Margaret Weyman" and found not guilty of abuse but guilty of theft. The theft was made because Thorp had property stolen from him by Margaret's husband, who was "a vile Tory." Thorp was admonished. General Wooster approved the sentence in a short, signed note at the bottom.
