Written by Allen the Vermont adventurer and land speculator, who had lost his fortune by the time this letter was written. Allen was the brother to Ethan Allen. Written to Vice President Clinton at the Senate's request. Describes Vermont's role in the quest for American independence using Samuel Williams's "The Natural and Civil History of Vermont" as a reference. Discusses the Allen family's support for American interests, the British Commissioners' proposal that Vermont become a British Colony, and a general overview of highlights pertaining to Vermont and the Revolutionary War.

An account of Battle of Kings Mountain, which took place in South Carolina on 7 October 1780, by Colonel Campbell (two months after the battle he was made brigadier general of militia). Describes the political and administrative background leading to this battle with a brief description of the battle itself. Date and transcription inferred from page 3. Genealogy, which appears to be added later, penciled in on page 4. Although there is no date it appears to be of the period.

Dated "1889" and signed by Sherman in pencil on front with his inscription on verso to General Frederick Tracy Dent in Denver on 13 July 1889. Dent was Grant's brother-in-law and West Point classmate, and an aide to Sherman (1869-1873). He lived in Denver at this time. This photo was used to design the $.08 Sherman stamp 1890-1894 issue.

Appoints James Waugh Lieutenant of a Company of foot in the first Battalion of Associates in the County of Cumberland, Pennsylvania. Note on left margin reads, "Exchanged 1 Septr: 1776. T.M." T.M. are the initials of Timothy Matlack, the clerk to the secretary at the second Continental Congress. As such, he was possibly the engrosser of the Declaration of Independence.

Title: [Penn, et al. v. Calvert, et al.]

An interrogatory with eleven questions for a case before the Court of Chancery of Great Britain involving a dispute between the Penn family and the proprietors of Maryland about the border. Although unsigned, this document perhaps was prepared by (or for) Ferdinand John Paris, legal counsel in London for the Penn family. The land in question became modern Delaware. The dispute was resolved finally by the Mason-Dixon survey of 1763-1767.

Provides a detailed calculation of Biddle profits from commissions. Provides an example of the form and acceptability of war-profiteering during the American Revolution.

This portfolio is a reprint of the original 1863 publication. The twenty-nine etchings by Volck were originally published under the name "V. Blada." Made during the Civil War, the etchings show sympathy for the Confederate cause, and distaste for warfare in general. It sardonically illustrates events that allegedly took place in the North and South from New York and Baltimore to Charleston and Vicksburg between 1861 and 1863. Discusses the questionable abilities of Joshua Humphreys, designer of the frigates Constitution and United States, and the shortcomings of these ships. It was on the USS Constitution that Bainbridge defeated the HMS Java and returned victorious to Boston Harbor in 1813, earning the ship its name "Old Ironsides." Binny was a Navy agent.

They confirm the existence the ring, saying of it that it is a "very extensive Combination, and of a very formidable nature, to counterfeit & pass Notes purporting to be of the Bank of the United States." It includes men of property and influence. They suggest remedies, saying that they are supported in these by Pennsylvania Congressman Joseph Clay.
