Title: to the Quartermaster at Morristown, New Jersey

Written by Major Shaw of Major General Henry Knox's staff to the Quartermaster at Morristown, New Jersey. Reports that on the march north from Burlington, New Jersey to New Windsor, New York, one of Knox's wagon horses "foundered" in such a way to make it impossible for her to continue. Says she was a grey mare and that she was left with a John Salter of Pompton, New Jersey, less than a mile from the Yellow House Tavern. Wants the quartermaster to pay the expense of recovering the mare so she can be put to public use.

In the handwriting of Captain Peirce of the artillery, most likely John Peirce, son of Isaac Peirce and younger brother of Joseph. Chart for supplies wanted at different posts on the Mohawk River in New York. Divided into five columns: for 12 pounder, for 7 pdr, for 6 pounds, for 3 pounder, and sundry articles. Mentions that butter sells for twenty-five cents per pound and asks her to send him some. Letterhead has the logo "United We Stand Divided We Fall" and Kentucky underneath. Letterhead contains a drawing of Andrew Jackson with the phrase "Our Federal Union, It MUST be preserved."

Fairchild writes to his wife from a camp near Alexandria, Virginia that he is frustrated by the delay of being mustered out. Anticipates he will be home no later than 1 July 1865. Informs that the last of the Rebel forces in Texas surrendered and his old commander, General Winfield S. Hancock, now commands the Veteran's Corps. Comments what a terrible fighter General Hancock was. Reports that a photograph of their regiment will go to New York Governor Reuben E. Fenton.

Sephronia writes to her husband Lewis asking when he will be discharged. States that the family is waiting and watching for his return every day. The fourth page of the letter is very faded and mostly illegible, but it is from his daughter Eunice and is dated 16 July 1865.
