Title: to Robert Livingston, Jr. re: apology for leaving Ancram

Elliott apologizes profusely for leaving his job at Ancram so abruptly, and is afraid that he has deeply offended Robert, Jr. He explains, however, that he was led to believe that Robert, Jr. was tired of him, so he took it upon himself to move at the first available opportunity. Since he has left the Manor, Elliott says that his life has gone completely "dormant," as he does not know where to begin his business. He concludes by expressing a desire to return to his job at the Manor, if Robert, Jr. will permit it. Docketed on verso.

Title: to Robert Livingston, Jr. re: decisions after the survey of Saratoga

The letter is signed by John R. Bleecker, Jacob Cuyler, and Cornelius Glen. The men write that a final division of the lands, creeks, etc. of Saratoga has been made, and they have found that they have no right to any part of the creek. They then ask Robert, Jr. to join them in building a mill on their lands that are to the south of the creek.

Title: to Robert Livingston, Jr. re: ungracious attitude of Dudley Davis

Yates expresses wonder at Dudley Davis's criticism of himself, and believes that Davis has made these remarks out of desperation and a desire to blame some one for his troubles. Yates therefore advises Robert, Jr. to stay away from him "for fear (if he should sink) he might lay hold and take part of our substance along with him."

John Van Buren asks Robert, Jr. if he would like George Cantlin, a somewhat careless and irresponsible worker, to chop wood on the Manor in the winter. He also states that there are 3 additional men interested in the position, but they seem of such questionable character that there would be fear of them running away with their axes. Title: Lease of land on the Manor of Livingston to John Crandell

The document leases a tract of land on the Manor to John Crandell, but stipulates that Robert Livingston, Jr. is to retain rights and access to all mines and minerals on the farm, "with liberty to search for, dig up, & carry away, all such ore minerals without the lett or hinderance of him the said John Crandell." Crandell is also obliged to clear the land and make it suitable to plant an orchard, and is required to give a certain quantity of his harvest to Robert, Jr. as a part of his rent.
