The praying Indians state that they have come to Albany to trade, and ask to be treated with kindness; the Commissioners answer that they will oblige them in this matter. The Commissioners of Indian Affairs then offer their own proposition, dated 3 July 1700, in which they ask the praying Indians to leave the priests in Canada, and return to English territory where they will receive instruction in the "true Christian faith." Title: Report about the Indians

Van Eps states that upon his arrival at Onondaga in July, he found the Indians meeting with some French men, for which he reprimanded them and informed them that Corlaer forabade such activity. When he questioned the Indians about the French intentions, he learned that the French proposed peace, the release of prisoners, and asked permission to place a Jesuit in their country. The Indians refused the French propositions, and stated that if they wanted a priest, Corlaer would supply them with one.

The Earl of Belloment states that he is happy to satisfy the Indians' request for a minister, and expresses his hope to translate the Bible into their language. He asks that they send 3 Sachem's sons of each nation to New York, where they will learn to read and write English for 3-4 years, so that they may return home to read the Bible to other Indians of their nation.

Title: Answer to the River Indians

The Earl of Bellomont asks the River Indians to invite their brethern the Eastern Indians to reside with them at Skachtkook, where they will receive the King's protection. He expresses his grief at their reluctance to join the Protestant faith, and states that they must renounce all ties to Canada and the Jesuits if they wish to be receive protection under the British crown.

The Earl of Bellomont instructs the Commissioners to uphold the peace in Albany, and to relieve the Indians in the event of a French attack. Bellomont also notes that Robert Livingston is to pay for the Indians' provisions out of his own excise, and that no further charges are to be made to the King's account.

William Kendall, the Agent of Indian Affairs in Virginia, writes to set the terms of the colony's relationship with the Mohawks. In order to maintain peace and friendship, Kendall writes that all Indians are required to stand still and lay down their arms upon contact with any Christians, or risk being killed as an enemy.

Coursey indicated that colonial agents would visit Onondaga territory, rather than have the Sachems travel to Albany. He also notes that small pox has prevented travel.

Proposition of Kendall and Col. Southy Littleton (who is noted to have died before the Indians came), contains the same statement as that in GLC03107.01.01891 and .01892. Followed by a proposition by Kendall to the Mohawks and westward Indians, in which Kendall notes that these Indians are forgiven for past aggressions, and are expected to obey the law of standing still and laying down weapons before a white man. It appears that a signature was cut out of the document.

Title: Answer to the proposition of William Kendall

In their answer, the Oneida Sachems admit that they destroyed the property of white settlers and took women and children captive. They explain that they were unjustly provoked, however, when white settlers shot some Oneidas for eating their corn, a privilege that Coll. Coursey granted them in a convenant made two years prior. The Sachems ask for a return to peace, and request that they be treated as friends in the future. Document signed by Robert Livingston Secr. as a true copy that he translated.
